In what can only accurately be described as an “awesome” move (yes, we tried to go for another adjective but this seemed the most apt) for fans of electronic gaming the folks at EA have gone and shaved off some serious gold coins from the RRP of a slew of last years triple A titles.
Among the games getting the credit crunch treatment are Battlefield: Bad Company, Facebreaker, FIFA 09, Mass Effect, Mercenaries 2, Mirror’s Edge, NASCAR 09, Need For Speed Undercover & The Simpsons. PS3 & Xbox 360 versions of the aforementioned titles will set you back no more than AED119, PSP & Wii have dropped to AED99 and Nintendo DS & PS2 versions are only a cool AED69.
Definitely a good time to catch up on anything you may have missed during the Huge Christmas Games Rush of ’08.

Not everyone is happy with the mundane appearance of their gaming consoles, so there are always a few looking for different ways to transform them into bizarre shapes and sizes. From PCs to Nintendo Wiis, take a look at some of the most interesting, or just plain weird, case mods out there:
#5 Xbox 360 tissue dispenser/alarm clock
A tissue dispenser and an alarm clock in an Xbox 360, what more could you ask for?
#4 Hello Kitty laptop
For all you die-hard fans Hello Kitty (and the girls here)
#3 Rockstar Games Wii
Stunning mod for the Wii. Shame it won’t handle the graphics on GTA IV.
#2 Rainbow Six-themed PS3
An awesome, detailed design of the Vegas scene, disguising the PS3 as a casino.
#1 R2D2 PC
Cleverly-designed case mod for the PC. Probably cleverer than the original R2.

‘This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.’ Words directly from the mouth of Rockstar’s Sam Houser himself. Sounds pretty solid to us even if the official site is a little scant on details. We look forward to what will undoubtedly be a game filled with violence, bullet-time and one brooding old codger of a leading man.
Due out Winter 2009 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Can’t wait for Ninja Blade to arrive on Xbox 360 on April 7? How about whetting your appetite with a custom digital manga-based storyline, tracing Ken Ogawa and the G.U.I.D.E. team’s past exploits. A chapter a week is released online, with the first two chapters already available to view or download. Blood and violence guaranteed.
Gaming research firm NPD Group has found that PC gaming trumps other systems for multiplayer use. Among the online players surveyed, 87 per cent play PC games online while Xbox Live only accounts for half. The Wii came in third with 27 per cent, and the PS3 fell over the finish last with only one in five. PC gamers can probably thank their 11 million World of Warcraft players for the win, it was their dedication to grinding, levelling and raiding that clinched it.

In the lead-up to this year’s E3 in June, we will be taking a look at a bunch of upcoming games that we’re trouser-soilingly excited about. First up we have Dark Void from Airtight Games:
Platform of Choice – PS3/Xbox 360/PC
The 411 – Third person shooter centering around a cargo pilot named Will who crashes rather unfortunately into the Bermuda Triangle. Earth threatening battle of epic proportions against an Alien race called the Watchers ensues.
Hype Worthy Criteria – Crimson Skies pedigree is nothing to sniff at. Vertical cover takes Gears of War and points it skywards. Nicola Tesla makes a guest appearance as the game’s very own Q. Jet-packs transition gameplay from on foot to in flight fire-fights giving us that Rocketeer game that never was, but always wanted.
Media Dump – Hit the official website for a teaser trailer.
Microsoft is launching a range of new colours for its Arc mouse and to celebrate Stuff is giving away a couple of the regular old black numbers (plus Explorer mice and LifeCams). All you have to do is pick up a copy of Stuff* (available at all good newsagents) and follow the instructions. It’s free to enter and there are a ton of other goodies up for grabs too: an Xbox 360 Elite, SanDisk Sansa View and loads of flash storage and games. All competition entries are picked at random, so there’s no benefit in sending us pictures to prove your loyalty to the world’s biggest-selling gadget magazine (except that we might put them up on the blog – thanks SungHo Choi).
*March issue, Middle East edition only
