Course, we saw this coming, but unless you live in the US, UK or Germany, you can kiss goodbye to free internet music. Live there and you’ll continue to receive music-on-demand from Last.fm. For the rest of us though, it looks like we’ll have to cough up about US$4 per month. The website has long offered a paid option that removes advertising from the 7 million songs available, but now that fee will become mandatory. It’s because advertising sales around the world aren’t enough to sustain the service, says Last.FM employee Mathew Ogle, with only US, UK and German markets lucrative enough to keep it free. Oh well, time to choose another free internet service.
